Rep. Ratcliffe Defends Peace Officers on the floor of the U.S. House
"To protect and serve… these words are much more than a slogan seen on police cars across the county, it’s a promise. A promise our men and women in blue fulfill on a daily basis while they serve to uphold the pillars of law and order that our society depends on. Without their work, without their sacrifice, our communities would be lawless and the safety of our families, neighbors, and loved ones would be in constant jeopardy.'
Thousands of peace officers go to work each day, knowing the danger, knowing that they may have to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of our security. Officers like Deputy Darren Goforth have been targeted for execution simply because they choose to protect our communities. The recent wave of violence directed at our peace officers, simply because they wear the uniform, is outrageous – it is appalling - and it must end.'
Mr. Speaker, I will continue to stand with our law enforcement and I want to personally thank all of the men and women who serve in the communities of the 4th district of Texas. I want to thank those in law enforcement who have reached out to my office to relay their concerns including Mike Sullivan in Farmersville, Otis Henry in Sherman, Terry Garrett in Heath, Harold Eavenson in Rockwall County, Jay Burch in Denison, and Daniel Shiner in Texarkana."
