Congressman Ratcliffe's Statement on Repealing Obamacare:

"Hi Friends, this week, I joined with my Republican colleagues in the House to pass H.R. 596 - a full repeal of the disastrous legislation known as the Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare.”  The President’s health care law is government at its worst – intrusive, expensive and full of broken promise.  Worst yet, it continues to hurt job creation and economic growth. The Congressional Budget Office, the non-partisan agency charged with providing independent analysis of budgetary and economic issues, estimates that Obamacare will reduce the number of full-time workers by 2.5 million. By doubling down on a government centric healthcare model, Obamacare has increased premiums in the individual market by an average of 49 percent according to a recent Manhattan institute study.

We’ve now seen what happens when Congress forces through a 2,300 page bill that no one even bothered to read.  The facts are overwhelming. I can sit here and talk about statistics for hours. But I won’t, because there is an example right here at home that demonstrates the harm that Obamacare has caused.

In Grayson County, Obamacare is forcing the county government to restrict part-time and temporary employee hours. Additionally, with the uncertainty of Obamacare’s tax and regulatory implications, the county is handcuffed in its effort to make strategic, long term plans about the healthcare it provides to employees.  It’s now looking like Obamacare will further cause premiums to increase for the families of Grayson County and negatively impact the county budget.

This is just one example of the failed promises of Obamacare, and I hear similar stories from all across our district. That’s why I’ve voted to repeal Obamacare in its entirety. However, simply repealing the law is not enough. That is why H.R. 596 also instructs relevant Committee Chairmen to develop conservative healthcare solutions that actually lower costs while increasing access to care.

Texas deserve better than Obamacare. Republicans have and will continue to present better ideas to strengthen our health care system and empower patients. Thank you and God Bless."
